WYNN ILM Software Activation

WYNN software requires activation. Activation is an easy, one-step process that can be done online in minutes. Below is an overview of activation for the different versions of WYNN, including Network, Single-user, and Multi-user. This information is included in every WYNN shipment. A more detailed description of the activation process is in the WYNN User Guide (see WYNN Manuals below).

WYNN Single-User Software and WYNN Non-Network Multi-User Activation

Software activation is an easy, one-time process that uses a 20-character Authorization number to help Freedom Scientific verify your productís license. It is the last step you perform when installing your WYNN non-network multi-user (NNMU) or WYNN single-user product. When activating over the Internet, software activation can be completed in a matter of minutes, which then allows you to use your WYNN product

When you start WYNN for the first time, you are asked to activate the program. You can also begin the activation process by opening the Help menu and clicking Update Authorization.

To activate WYNN using the Internet, do the following:

  1. In the Activation dialog box, choose Update Authorization.
  2. Read the message that displays and then choose Continue.
  3. Insert the Authorization CD into your disk drive and choose Activate Using Authorization CD. You can find your Authorization CD in the same disk wallet as your WYNN program DVD. If you do not have your Authorization CD, choose Enter Your Authorization Number Manually.

Note: If you have the Non-network Multi-user (NNMU) version, your Authorization number is printed on a label attached to an Authorization letter. If you have the Network WYNN Server, insert the Network Tools CD and click Activate.

  1. If a User Account Control (UAC) dialog opens during this process, click Yes to continue activation.
  2. In the Activation dialog box, choose Activate.
  3. Select “Now, Using the Internet (RECOMMENDED)” and click Next.
  4. If your Authorization number is not shown, or if you have the Non-network Multi-user version of WYNN, type the Authorization number into the edit box. You can find your Authorization number on your WYNN disk wallet.
  5. Click Next to continue. You will be asked to connect to the Internet if you have not already done so. You must establish an Internet connection before continuing with the activation.
  6. If you have not registered WYNN, you are asked to do so now. Registering WYNN lets you receive technical support. Choose Register Now and complete the online registration form by following the instructions provided. You can choose to register later, but you must register the next time you activate WYNN.
  7. After you submit your registration, Internet License Manager attempts to activate WYNN. This process may take several minutes. When the activation is successful, click Finish.

Note: Some network or personal firewall software may interfere with the installation, activation, or usage of WYNN. Firewalls protect computer systems from being accessed by unauthorized users. If your firewall prevents you from installing or activating WYNN, refer to the section in the WYNN User Guide (in PDF on your WYNN program disk) for information about configuring your firewall.

Hardware Key Authorization

The WYNN Loan License program uses a hardware key (a device that connects to your computer's USB port) to make your WYNN license more portable. A hardware key allows you to use an authorized version of WYNN on any computer as long as the hardware key remains connected.

When WYNN starts, it first determines whether a hardware key is connected to the computer. If one is connected, WYNN uses the features and information for the license associated with the hardware key to authorize WYNN. If no hardware key is connected, WYNN searches for the license information stored on the computer. You can use the Hardware Key Viewer utility to view information on the license associated with the hardware key currently connected to your computer. To start this utility, go to the WYNN program group (6.0 or later), open the Tools submenu, and choose Dongle Viewer.

Note: It is recommended that you install WYNN first before connecting the hardware key to your computer. If the hardware key was connected before or during installation, you must restart your computer to receive proper authorization.

Network WYNN Software Activation

  1. Insert the Network Tools CD into your disk drive, and follow the installation instructions. When complete, the Network Authorization tools are installed on the server.
  2. To activate WYNN Network Server, choose the Windows Start button, and then All Programs > Freedom Scientific > Network > Update WYNN Wizard Authorization or Update WYNN Reader Authorization.
  3. Choose the Activation button, and follow the activation instructions as described earlier on this page.

  • How do I install WYNN 6.0, including if I have WYNN 5.1 or earlier installed on my computer?

    Note: These instructions apply to the stand-alone version of WYNN. For network version, please refer to the WYNN User Guide in PDF format on the WYNN program DVD.

    If you have WYNN 5.1 or earlier installed on your computer

    Uninstall the software before installing WYNN 6.0 or later. Note that any documents created using earlier WYNN versions will not be removed and will remain in your user documents folder.

    Windows XP
    If, for example, you installed the stand-alone version of WYNN Wizard 5.1 on Windows XP using default settings, the location of your user files is:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\WYNN5.

    Note: The name of the Documents folder may vary, for example, Shared Documents or Documents.

    Windows 7
    If instead you have Windows 7, the location of your user files is:
    C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\WYNN5.

    Note: If you have WYNN Reader instead of WYNN Wizard, the end of the path will be WYNNR5.

    This folder is where all the user log-ins are located, including documents and settings. Each user log-in contains all the documents and settings created and used for that user.

    If you will be using the PEARL camera with WYNN

    Do not connect the camera to your computer until the WYNN installation is complete. For more information on connecting and setting up PEARL, refer to the PEARL Quick Start Guide.

    To install WYNN 6.0
  1. Put the WYNN DVD in your CD/DVD drive.
  2. The WYNN Setup program starts, and displays installation instructions. Follow these instructions to complete the WYNN installation. For those who want more detail about the installation process, the process is listed below for the WYNN Wizard Stand-alone. For other options, refer to the Quick Start Guide, which is shipped with your WYNN product, or the User Guide, which is in PDF on your WYNN 6.0 DVD.

    Installation Process for WYNN Wizard 6.0 Stand-alone

    Part I: Overall Installation Choices
  1. Welcome screen. Click Next.
  2. Stand-alone vs. Network. Click Stand-alone, then Next.
  3. Wizard vs. Reader. Click Wizard, then Next.
  4. Locale (language) US vs. UK. Click US, then Next.
  5. Public Domain Books. Click Yes, then Next. It will take about 10 to 30 seconds to proceed to the next part of the installation.

    Part II: RealSpeak Solo Installation
  1. Welcome screen. Click Next.
  2. EULA (license agreement). Click Accept, then Next.
  3. Setup Type (Typical vs. Custom). Click Typical.
  4. Ready to install. Click Install. It will take several minutes to install.
  5. Finish installing RealSpeak Solo. Click Finish. It will take about 10 to 30 seconds to proceed to the last part of the installation.

    Part III: WYNN Program Installation
  1. Welcome screen. Click Next.
  2. EULA (license agreement). Click Accept, then Next.
  3. Setup Type (Typical vs. Custom). Click Typical.
  4. Ready to install. Click Install. It will take several minutes to install.
  5. Finish installing WYNN. Click Finish. It will exit the installation.

    You now have two icons on the desktop, WYNN Wizard 6.0 and WYNN User Files.

    Starting WYNN the First Time
  1. Double-click the WYNN icon to launch WYNN.
  2. Create your user account by typing a name, then clicking OK.
  3. It will ask if you want to authorize or run as a demo. Choose “Run as Demo.”

    You can now use WYNN for 40 minutes at a time. After 40 minutes, you will need to re-boot your computer to continue using WYNN.

    Activating WYNN

    To activate your copy of WYNN, follow the instructions in the WYNN Quick Start Guide that is shipped with every copy of WYNN. There are several ways to activate, so be sure to read the information and choose the right method for the version you have purchased.To get to your old WYNN documents and settings files, open the WYNN User Files shortcut on your desktop, then go up one level (by clicking the icon with the up arrow on the folder). All your old user folders are there. You can copy and paste them into your new WYNN log-in folders if you want.

  • How can I modify WYNN for test taking so that some of the tools are not available?
    Use WYNN's 'Teacher Lockout' feature to lock a student or other user out of certain features. The lockout features are the Dictionary, Thesaurus, Spell Checker, Word Prediction, Web, and E-mail. Teacher Lockout is found on the Advanced menu item. Using Teacher Lockout, you can restrict student access to one or more functions during test taking. Teacher lockout is valid until the teacher unlocks the workstation, or until WYNN is restarted.

  • How does WYNN work on a network?
    Network WYNN is a network-enabled version of WYNN. Just as with the stand-alone product, Network WYNN comes in two versions: Network WYNN Wizard, and Network WYNN Reader.

    Network WYNN consists of three parts: the license server, the WYNN server, and the WYNN client. The WYNN server and license server can be installed on the same machine.

    The license server controls who can access the WYNN server. The license server issues tokens to requesting clients. The token will activate WYNN and allow the client to connect to the WYNN server. The number of tokens that can be issued depends on how many license seats were purchased. When the license server issues all of its tokens, subsequent requesting clients will not be able to activate WYNN. After a user logs off and the client releases its token to the license server, the license server will be able to issues that token to another client.

    The WYNN server contains the user settings and files. A client, after receiving a token from the license server, can connect to the WYNN server to access the user’s settings and files. Users can connect to their files from any client.

    The WYNN client application runs on each individual client workstation. When a person logs on to the WYNN client, the client requests a license token from the license server. After the token is issued the WYNN client is activated and can connect to the WYNN server. When the user logs out of WYNN, the client releases the token back to the license server for other people to use.

  • How do I customize a toolbar?
    You can create your own personal toolbar, with the buttons you most commonly use on it. Use the Customize Toolbar item in the Settings menu to do this. WYNN will display a list of all available tool bar buttons, with a brief description next to them. Select the buttons you want from this list, then check the box called 'Show Custom Toolbar.' The Custom toolbar replaces the standard WYNN rotating toolbar. To go back to the standard toolbar, choose Show Default Toolbar.
